"I think you have created a unique kind of visual performance which is as much about the internal landscape of the viewer as the place they are in."
Liz Whitehead, Fabrica

"You put me in a magical place somewhere between reality, your fiction and my imagination. I also loved the fact that I had to 'walk' to move and 'do' in order to discover the story."

Outshift make cinematic journeys that unfold as you walk, layering site-specific content into the live experience of a place.  We spend slow time in a site, listening, filming and finding routes through, then craft this material into narrative.

We are interested in the way walking charges a location: the hedonic qualities of sensory alertness and adrenalin as a way into an altered state.

Finding the tools that work with this shift, that deliver moving-image, sound and navigational cues while remaining porous to the live, is a continuing road of research and invention.

We've made portable paper flickbooks and flickerscope installations to create a hand-cranked augmented reality. Our new work will use haptic and sound navigation and devices that change the form and our interaction with digital moving image.
